Overall
Every year, Georgia strengthens its position as one of the world’s most promising destinations for ski tourism. Massive investments are being poured into the development of its northern regions: new ski runs are built, mountain villages are modernized, and vital infrastructure lines are laid.
One of the country’s best locations for winter sports is the Gudauri Ski Resort, situated in the Kazbegi district, not far from the Jvari (Cross) Pass.
The highest point of Gudauri, Mount Sadzele, rises to 3,270 meters above sea level. On a clear day, you can even see the majestic Mount Kazbek from its peak.
Gudauri has earned its popularity thanks to its breathtaking landscapes, snowy slopes, well-developed infrastructure, and proximity to Georgia’s main transport hubs — Tbilisi and Kutaisi, located about 120 km and 300 km away, respectively.
What makes Gudauri unique among other ski resorts is the presence of freeride zones, where skiers can choose their own off-piste routes.
The terrain is ideal for freeriding — smooth slopes without large rocks or uneven surfaces, and no risk of avalanches. The untouched snowfields of Gudauri attract extreme sports enthusiasts from around the world. Both snowboarders and skiers come here to test their skills in heliskiing and backcountry skiing.
