The climate that determines the weather in Batumi is humid subtropical, throughout the year is strongly influenced by the Black Sea and the orographic impact of the nearby hills and mountains, due to which during almost always Batumi is the leader in the amount of precipitation among Georgian cities, and is also the wettest region in the Caucasus.

Batumi receives an average of 2435 mm of precipitation per year. The wettest month is November, and the comparatively “dry” month is May. In a month, according to statistics, from 108 to 312 mm of precipitation is possible: mainly in the form of heavy and fairly heavy rain, although sunny weather more often prevails. Snow in Batumi is a rare phenomenon, but it can happen. The Black Sea in Batumi warms up to normal for bathing +19 °C at the end of May – beginning of June, and the swimming season continues until the end of September – beginning of November.

In June the water temperature is already +23 °C, although at this time it is not advised to go on vacation with small children, as in the following months the water will be even warmer and more comfortable. The peak of the season is July and August, when the sea is the warmest, +26…+27 °C, but this is associated with predictable disadvantages – a large number of tourists on the beach and the need to rest from the midday heat in the shade.

In September, the sea practically does not have time to cool down, the water temperature is about +25 °C. In fact, it is not even a velvet season, but a more climatically comfortable continuation of summer.

Water temperature in Batumi in October, on average, is also acceptable for swimming, +21 °C. However, the swimming and beach season is mostly over in early October.

In November it is already only +17 °C, you can’t swim. The minimum water temperature in the Black Sea in Batumi water area is always in February and March: Batumi Bay cools down to +9 °C.

The new season opens at the end of May, if the sea water near the shore manages to warm up to +19 °C, but the official start of the season is usually in June.

The best time of the low season in Batumi is May. The weather is warm, and you can count on stable temperatures above +20°C from the middle of the month. During the day in the resort town it is very warm, but not yet hot, on average +25 °C. Of all summer months June is the most suitable for combining beach rest and excursion program.

In July the weather in Batumi is already hot, in this month was recorded a temperature record for the entire period of meteorological observations: the thermometer rose to +40.6 °C. But the most important thing is very warm sea, even on average it is already +26 °C.

August in Batumi is the peak of the tourist season. At this time the sea is the warmest, and the air temperature even at night is above +20 °C. There is almost no wind, humidity is high, and there can be heavy and short rains.

Summer in Batumi continues even throughout September. The weather is predominantly sunny, the sea is still warm, the rains become more frequent, but not so much as to interfere with beach vacations and excursions. The average daytime temperature is +22 °C, and for independent tourists it is one of the most favorite months for a trip.

Bathing season in Batumi usually ends in early October, but it can happen even earlier: it all depends on the weather, and it is very variable in mid-autumn. Nevertheless, the average temperature in October is an encouraging +20 °C. Rains are more frequent and heavier, but there are plenty of sunny days – about 20, and there is every chance to have time to drink delicious Georgian wine during the traditional October wine days, see the sights and go on excursions.
