Mtskheta is the ancient capital, city of history and culture, religious center of Georgia. “Holy city” by status from the Georgian Catholicos, among tourists is known for an incredible selection of sights and interesting places. Getting to Mtskheta is very easy: the city is located on the legendary Georgian Military Road and is visited on the way from Stepantsminda to Tbilisi. Buses and shuttle buses run from the capital to Mtskheta, and rich excursions are organized.

The whole historical center and the Old Town are pretty quarters with brustachka sidewalk and tiled roofs, ancient cathedrals and museums. Visit the magnificent Svetitskhoveli, one of the greatest historic temple complexes in Georgia.

In 1994 the historical monuments of Mtskheta were recognized as masterpieces of cultural heritage. Among the unique monuments of architecture and history are Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, Jvari temple on the top of the mountain, with one of the best viewing platforms in Georgia, medieval monastery Samtavro with many shrines.
